About GrossWise
GrossWise started with a simple frustration: most online salary calculators are black boxes. You type in a number, a different number comes out, and you have no idea what happened in between.
We do it differently. Every calculator on this site shows its work — the exact tax tables, formulas, and assumptions used, linked from right below the results. If you can do arithmetic, you can verify every number we produce.
What we publish
- Paycheck calculators for the questions people actually ask: what will I take home, what is my overtime worth, how do tips get split, what hourly rate matches a salary.
- Methodology notes with the data behind each tool, including the tax year the figures apply to.
- Plain-English guides explaining the concepts (marginal vs. effective tax rates, FICA, pre-tax deductions) without jargon.
How we keep numbers accurate
Tax figures change every year. We re-verify our federal tax tables against IRS publications each January and stamp every calculator with the tax year it uses. When we can't verify a figure — for example, a state whose 2026 tables we haven't confirmed yet — we say so on the page instead of guessing.
Who we are
GrossWise is a small independent project run by people who like spreadsheets a little too much. We don't sell your data because we never collect it: every calculation runs entirely in your browser.
